Combination v's
system boiler?
Which is most efficient at providing hot water, a combination or a system boiler?
It could be argued that storing water at high
temperatures over
extended periods in a cylinder used heated by a system boiler would
increase energy losses; however greater inefficiencies are likely to be
caused by inappropriate design, poor control and usage, and inefficient
installation of either system. Each system when applied appropriately
has its merits. On a like for like layout, with like for like usage,
there's little to choose between them.

I'm looking to source a boiler for a client who would like to install a
combination boiler and possible install solar at a later date. Rather
than converting the combi to a system they would like a boiler that can
except pre heated water from a storage cylinder installed later with
the solar panels. Do you have a suitable boiler available for the
British market?
Response:
Thank you for your email. None of our combination
boilers are approved for use with solar. The issues of legionella
control and scalding have yet to be addressed.

Thank you for your interest in Ravenheat Products. A suitable boiler
for use solar panels would be our CSI120 or CSI150. With regard to
legionella control and scalding these are matters that would be dealt
with by your system designer.
